reflexblue - Wheelchair Challenge 2013

The reflexblue – Wheelchair Challenge took place on a beautiful sunny day on Saturday 24th August 2013.

Around 80 people from three local volunteer clubs - Dunbartonshire Disability Sport Club, Riverside Football Club and Sporting Judo Club ALBA - were involved in a 13km wheelchair relay that ventured along the Forth and Clyde canal aiming to raise awareness of their individual clubs and their work with Scottish Disability Scotland.

MSP Jackie Baillie preside over the relay that started at Dumbarton Castle and teams from each of the charities, each with 13 participants, atacked the course with great energy. After three and a half hours of sweat, one or two blisters and lots of laughs, the tired yet enthusiastic participants were welcomed into the Clydebank Shopping Centre by Provost, Douglas McAllister.

The reflexblue - Wheelchair Challenge raised a fantastic £3,000 for the three clubs. The event gave each of the charities an opportunity to showcase the sporting opportunities they offer for people with disabilities, and to collectively promote their association with Scottish Disability Scotland.

The success of this year's challenge has prompted a bigger event for next year that will involve even more clubs, so plans for the next reflexblue - Wheelchair Challenge 2014 are well underway!
